Claudiu David defeated the entire group N on the Mecsek rally

Not many people noticed that on the 42nd Allianz Mecsek Rally a couple of Romanian competitors invited by Topp-Cars toe the line. Competitors Claudiu David and Mihaela Beldie did not intend to just participate, they came for the real thing.

They had a very good time already in the prologue, being overtaken in the N group only by Asi, the prologue specialist. The next surprise offered by the team was to be able to stay in the leading group despite the fact that they have never been on the Mecsek rally – one  which as we have seen has caused enough problems to Hungarian competitors as well.

David took over the first place after Asi abandoned and despite of the fact that Hadik overtook him on Sunday he regains his position during the last part of the competition and won   with an advantage of 0,9 seconds.

„It was a difficult competition” – declared David to itiner.hu at the finish who spoke English very well unlike most of the Hungarian competitors. – „This was the fastest rally of my life. Hungarians drive like crazy during the entire rally. We were constantly under attack.”

„When we overtook the lead, I tried to consolidate our advantage, but I could not manage, we were constantly under attack.”

„This is the first time I participated to a competition in Hungary. I liked the stages very much, and the opponents as well. In the Romanian competition I use a Topp-Cars car, but I could not go the entire season due to financial circumstances. It was Topp-Cars also who invited me to the Mecsek rally. They gave me a great car for this competition, and also my co-driver was very good.”

Claudiu David was highly appreciated by everybody. Both fans and competitors.

„I thought I should try and overtake him” – related Hadik. – „But then I decided I should concentrate on preserving my position in the Hungarian competition. But I must admit David did very well. He is a great pilot.”

And if we are lucky we should see Crazy David again in Hungary.

„The sponsors promised that if we had good results we will have other chances to compete in Hungary. I do not know if this will be so, but I hope so, because I liked it here.”
